Unraveling plant-microbiome interactions through a holo-omics approach to design synthetic communities (SynComs).
Have you heard of SynCom genomics? At AllGenetics we have developed SynCom genomics services to provide a holo-omics approach on beneficial interactions between microorganisms and plants.
The microbial communities inhabiting plants’ roots (rhizosphere), aerial parts (phyllosphere), and internal tissues (endosphere) influence important plant functions such as nutrient uptake, stress tolerance, and pathogen resistance. The microbial composition is partially shaped by the genome of the host plant. By understanding the relationships between the plant genome and associated microorganisms, it becomes possible to design effective microbiome engineering strategies, including the development of SynComs (synthetic microbial communities), to optimise plant health and productivity.
Our advanced genomic analyses provide an integrated view of beneficial plant-microbiome interactions, which can be used by researchers and developers to inform SynCom design. This integrative approach ensures SynComs are designed precisely and tailored to specific plant varieties and functions. We also provide tools to assess SynCom effectiveness in both controlled and field conditions, as well as their persistence throughout plant development.
Our analyses include:
- Plant genotyping through SNP analysis.
- DNA metabarcoding to infer the diversity and richness of bacterial and fungal communities.
- Metagenomics and metatranscriptomics to profile microbiome functions and explore co-occurrence networks.
- Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) to identify plant genetic variants associated with microbial composition.
- qPCR quantification of targeted microbial groups to track SynCom colonisation.
- RNA-seq to investigate microbiome-induced changes in plant gene expression.
- Bisulphite sequencing to explore the epigenetic regulation behind plant-microbiome interaction.
