AllGenetics will be stepping into the spotlight at the 35th European Cetacean Society (ECS) annual meeting this April that will be held in the city of Catania.
At AllGenetics we are glad to announce our participation at this event, a key gathering for the marine mammal biology and conservation community in Europe. AllGenetics’ participation will consist in a presentation focusing on the benefits and applications of eDNA metabarcoding, with the particular goal of unveiling cetacean biodiversity.
eDNA metabarcoding is a cutting-edge technique that is changing the game in how we study and understand marine life. This is a non-invasive method that allows us to identify cetacean species from water samples, providing a snapshot of the biodiversity in a given area. This method stands out for its capacity to provide insights without disrupting the natural habitats or behaviours of marine species. It is a step forward in the study of the ocean’s biodiversity with minimal impact on the environment.
Our team, led by our head of laboratory, Antón Vizcaíno, has sound experience in detecting cetacean species from water samples using eDNA metabarcoding. During his talk Antón will be discussing the essential wet-lab processes, from DNA isolation to library preparation and sequencing, showcasing how these techniques are vital for conservation efforts and our understanding of marine ecosystems.
The upcoming meeting in Catania promises to bring together leading minds to foster collaboration and drive advancements in the field of ceteacean conservation and research.
